Tastes are different just as people are. Judging the taste for music of the people around us is useless because they all differ. Hearing has many perceptive values. We can hear a step, a kiss on the cheek, a piano note, etc.

To understand other people’s taste in music means understanding those people and it means devotion towards the music in general. What does music mean? Well, we could define it as a symmetrical arrangement of interdependent sounds. From here to determining to which gender a particular song belongs to, is not a long way.

Romanians like to listen to all kinds of music. There are many influences in Romanian music, as there are all over the world. Romanians produce music, and they listen to it. Like any other art, Romanian popular music has many fans.

There are all types of disputes for tastes, as in any art so it does not really matter who says what about the genders. Culturally speaking, Romania has built its values in time and nowadays, depending on the values of each individual, there are different types of music they listen to. However, there is one particular gender, which can be categorized as Romanian popular music and that is folk music.

As any country with a rich and traditions full past, folk Romanian music seems to be the most colourful and pleasant music to the ears all over the world. They have all kind of typical genders like the “hora”, and many others very “tasted” genders. People who have visited Romania or have had contact with the music that Romanians listen to, especially folk music, have a good opinion about it.

Popular Romanian music means in the first place, traditional music. There is nobody, who was born and lived there with the traditions, who do not appreciate a good “doina” and the love lyrics in it. This is how Romanians think, this is what Romanians feel and that is how they have been raised. No matter what other taste in music a Romanian person has, they all enjoy the traditional music.

Therefore, if there is a place, where more people gather and most of them are Romanians with different tastes in music, there is one particular gender, which will absolutely unite and make them feel good, and that is the folk Romanian music.

That is considered popular music, no matter where Romanians are found. Many of them work abroad, and they have adjusted to the environment they live in, and also they raise their children with the traditions of the place they adjusted to. Nevertheless, that is not a reason not to teach their young the values of the Romanian folk music.

So, no matter where Romanians are, popular music is considered to be the music that each individual or group likes. Americans have their country music, the jeans, the rock and roll, the hot dogs, etc. It is very easy to deduce the influences, which now help genders develop. People will always sing rock and roll and country music as well as listen to it in the United States, as the traditional Romanian folk music will be listened and sung in Romania.

“Christian Rock”, a title often scoffed at by traditional rock artists, enthusiasts & critics alike is gaining popularity and stamping its place as a sort after genre for the young generation of head-banging, mosh-pitting gurus! Didn’t Christian rock die a couple of years ago, you ask? Christian rock music is growing faster than ever before with Daily News of Christian Rock Music, new artists & albums streaming across the Internet and pumping the airways continuously every day. So where did this God Rock come from? I mean this is new right?

This type of rock music wasn’t around 20 years ago, was it? Well I didn’t think so until recently, the reality is Christian music or should I say Christian rock music has been around apparently from the dawn of creation! So why seeing it today all the time? Where were they hiding and what happened to the voice of damnation for those participating in anything other than a church hymn or Sunday school choir? Well the chastity belt of today’s Christian rock is alive and well. There are many religious organizations who oppose this form of music, I will talk more about this opposition later.

Most Christians are in favor of this “movement” feeling that Christian rock music is another way to reach people with the importance of the Christian faith. So why the controversy?, what is so different about Non-Christian rock music in comparison to Christian rock? Many have asked this question and instead of quoting Mr. Bob Dylan “the answer is blowing in the wind”, I thought I would look into this more closely and check out the facts and see why there is so much “opposition” to the sounds of “thumping grace”. After reviewing many rock & heavy metal music bands and performances and then compared them to their Christian counterparts, I did see differences but not many! The stage performance was very similar with the exception of Non-Christian heavy metal revealing more of a dark or sadistic side at times in general there was little if any change in production or presentation from Christian rock to standard or Non-Christian music. The only real difference I could find was the lyrical content, with Christian rock music quoting words from the Bible and preaching family values.

So why was Christian rock music inward for so many years, seemingly hiding in the shadows from more conservative members of the Christian community? Well apparently they weren’t seeking refuge in some dark cave at all, it’s just that I like many people didn’t even know they were around back then! Good old fashioned Christian rock bands like Petra, Stryper, Bloodgood, Whitecross and Tourniquet have been rocking Christians and secular music lovers alike for generations.

The voice of rock damnation is still screaming louder than ever in some Christian circles although seemingly falling on deaf ears of a Christian Rocker community that grows bigger every day. Who opposes this Christian liberation? Who else but other Christians! It seems some segments of who have not advanced to modern day sounds are Bible bashing these Christian rock music enthusiasts with eternal consequences for their “lack of understanding”. The most dramatic example I came across was the seventh day adventist (SDA) church who proclaim that Christian rock music is quote “Devil music”. The SDA church preach that all rock music has the “beat of the devil” borrowed from primitive heathen rituals, beating in time with the body’s “natural rhythms”. I found it hard to understand that anyone could think this way at first, but indeed it is true and they are very serious about stamping out any and all rock music, or anything for that matter that has a drum beat!

Compact discs have become the most popular Music storage medium recently. Popularly known for its short name ‘CD’, it has many benefits of quality, safety, capacity and cost.

It is far superior than previous storage mediums like tape cassettes and records. Record was the early storage mediums. It was replaced by tapes. Tape cassettes enjoyed popularity for many years. Now, compact discs have completely replaced tape cassettes.

Quality of music stored on a CD is far more superior to that of a cassette. It has excellent audio output. It gives great purity of sound. Tunes and voice are very distinct. Makes listening of song and tunes more enjoyable. This is one of the main reason of its popularity among the listeners.

It offers better safety than that of tape cassettes. Tapes were prone to easy damage and breakage. Formation of fungus due to non use was also the minus point. A CD is much sturdier. It is usually damage proof and scratch proof in normal usage. Very rough use can only cause damage to a compact disc. It is also fungus proof. Hence, it can be stored for very long periods.

It has a great capacity for storage. A compact disc can typically store 700 mega bytes of music. That is a huge capacity considering storage in mp3 file format. Mp3 format reduces the file size to nearly 15 per cent than its previous file formats. A song of 50 mega bytes can be reduced to 5 or 6 mega bytes in mp3 format keeping the sound quality intact. Capacity of a CD is one of its chief advantages.

A CD is very cost effective also. Mass production reduces the cost to a great extent. Secondly, competition among its manufacturers also helps in reducing the cost. Now, it has become highly affordable to the extent that it can be almost termed as cheap.

There’s a line from an old blues song that says, “the blues had a baby…and they called it rock n’ roll.”

Let me tell you, there is so much truth to that line! You can listen to all the first rock n’ roll songs and hear the blues guitar riffs, chord progressions and scales being played, just in a less bluesy
kinda way.

“Johnny B. Good” is a great example of a blues guitar progression being played with a rock drum beat and a vocal melody that is different from how a blues vocal melody would sound. It doesn’t end there though. The influence on modern music is still very prevalent. We hear it in hip-hop, rock, emo, indie, reggae, r & b, funk, etc.

The ever so popular 1 – 4 – 5 chord progression (3 chords) that is used in blues is also used in practically EVERY type of music that exists. Even Mozart uses this chord progression as well as many others from the classical period. Not only do blues guitar riffs and chord progressions get used in modern music, but most guitar solos also have blues overtones in rock music as well as the other styles that I mentioned. It has been a KEY factor in forming the shape sound of modern music no matter how you look at it.

Learning how to play blues guitar should be a top priority on any guitar players ‘to-do’ list. Once you learn the ins and outs of this style, you can manipulate it to create your own modern songs, riffs and/or solos. Many guitar players that I know improvise on the blues scale to create their main riffs and super impressive leads as well as use the chord progressions to write new, more modern music.

Don’t let anybody tell you that the blues is dead!

Some will say it’s a skill others say it’s a talent. The realty of this is Hip Hop is a mixer of both. Hip Hop will always be here with us because of it diversity, any culture can adopt it to their experience. Hip Hop unlike other genres can merge into other forms of music. It can be mix with rock, country, reggae and many others.

Hip Hop is also easier to get into than other genres. In many under develop nations where people can’t afford music lesson or instrument. Hip Hop is a way they can express themselves without using a lot of resources. All it takes is an open mind and a pen and a pad. Another factor that makes Hip Hop so popular world wild, is it ability to spread a message. A Hip Hop song has more word than most other genres of music. That makes it easier to get a point across and to inform others.

With the prices of computers going down and software getting better plus the Internet it look like Hip Hop will have a big independent and international movement coming soon. No one can ever predict what direction Hip Hop will take in the future, but indications show that there is a good chance that Hip Hop will be here for a long time to come.
